No more than a few hundred yards wide in most places, Perdido Key, Florida stretches along the Gulf of Mexico for 16 miles. Almost 60% of its land mass is designated as a park, making it one of the most important wilderness areas in northwest Florida. It offers year round opportunities for boating, fishing and hiking.
The RV Resort is located less then a mile from the famous white sand beaches of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. This reserve stretches from Mississippi to Florida and includes 150 miles of undeveloped federally protected sugar white sand beaches and rolling dunes.
Perdido Key is also home to the Big Lagoon State Park Lookout Tower. Climb up the 40-foot lookout tower for a view of Alabama’s Intracoastal Waterway, Gulf Islands National Seashore and the Gulf of Mexico.
The RV Resort is a quick drive to the Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama which is home to the longest fishing pier on the Gulf Coast as well as miles and miles of hiking and biking trails. The Pier in Gulf State Park is a great place for strolling as well as fishing. The sightseeing pass is only $2 and the view is unbeatable.
Surfing, and it’s associated laid back culture, is one of the key defining characteristics of the local lifestyle. Several surf shops rent equipment, host events, teach lessons and hold camps. Stand up paddle boarding (SUP), the latest craze to hit the beach, is easily learned ‘sound side’ where the water is calm. You can even try your hand at paddle board yoga.
Gulf Coast Florida is one of the top year round snorkeling and scuba diving destinations in the US. In 2008, the area was featured in The World’s Best Diving & Resort edition of Sport Diver magazine. You can snorkel right off the beach or spend a day exploring the area’s numerous artificial reefs including the world’s largest, the USS Oriskany.
